We are delighted to announce we have been successful in our application to the Garfield Weston Foundation who have awarded us a grant of £40,000 towards our core costs. This grant will enable us to carry on delivering high quality services and experiences to the children and young people who come to Rose Road. Our ethos is that everyone should have the same opportunities to enjoy some independence, to learn new skills and to make new friends no matter how complex their health and care needs. The children who use our services get so much more than just a safe and welcoming place to stay, we go the extra mile to ensure that no one is excluded from the activities and outings other children take for granted. In these economically challenging times the Garfield Weston Family’s support is an absolute lifeline for our services.

We are celebrating a £65,000 grant, to help provide short breaks for the severely disabled children and young people who use our services. At Rose Road we help families in crisis and have been given the money by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Freemasons.

This year we are celebrating our 65th Anniversary. The grant will provide 150 emergency short breaks over three years, giving one to one care. Rose Road steps in during emergency situations such as when another family member is admitted to hospital, when there is a bereavement or when the child’s parent falls ill. The breaks are also designed to allow families to spend time with non-disabled children, or even just to get a good night’s sleep. Last year we provided 366 short breaks, 3572 overnight stays and more than 19,000 hours of outreach in the community.

Rose Road Services Director, Sarah Marshall, said: “Looking after a disabled young person can be very rewarding but families face additional barriers within their everyday life. Knowing we are here to help when there is a family crisis is fantastic. We are so grateful to the Masonic Charitable Foundation for their extremely generous grant”.
