The delivery of a shiny, specially adapted vehicle has coincided with the wonderful news that we have raced through the £100,000 barrier for our Change My Life Appeal!
The new adapted vehicle will make a huge difference to life at Rose Road. It will ensure all of our young people, especially those who are slightly older in their teen years and beyond, are able to access community facilities and enjoy day trips for example to the zoo and local theme park!
The vehicle was welcomed by the young people of Rose Road and staff from the respite area, Oaks and Acorns. Through the summer holiday, the team provide a crucial break to parents and carers from the challenges of looking after and caring for a young person with complex and multiple disabilities.

Heather Aspinall, Rose Road Chief Executive, said "This just shows what can be achieved through fundraising and the direct impact that can be made to the lives of our young people. Without the efforts of all those who have got involved with the Appeal so far this would not have been possible, so a huge well done to everyone!
We still have a long way to go however and we really need people to help if they can. Please get in touch if you would like to hold an event, take part in a sponsored activity or make a donation - every penny counts!"

As the rounds flew by it was neck and neck till the end, before we finally had a winner. Food and drink laid on helped the night go with a swing and a raffle was also held to raise more funds with a Nintendo Wii as first prize.
The whole evening was a great success with a fantastic £1759.88 being raised for the Change My Life Appeal.
Gary Thomasson says "Well done to everyone who attended and huge thank you for a very enjoyable evening. £1800 will make a big difference to the Change My Life Appeal and I would like to thank everyone from HSBC for organising such a great event".

Watch out for future HSBC events...

A number of young people from Rose Road recently visited John Lewis to find a new camera with a video facility. The camera will be able to record our young people's activities, work, likes and dislikes. The camera was donated to the children, by John Lewis, as a gift.

We are still looking for more brave volunteers to take part in our Summer Skydive, which is on Saturday 6th September.

Bruce Elkins, who is a director of CW Fellowes, business and tax advisers, chose to to commemorate his recent 50th birthday by raising money for Rose Road’s Change My Life Appeal.
Bruce cycled from John O'Groats to Land's End and climbed Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon on the way. The end-to-end ride took him a total of 17 days to complete and has raised £4,000 for the Appeal.
No stranger to sporting challenges, father of two Bruce, began his fundraising in 1991 when he participated in the Totton Triathlon in memory of his mother Sylvia, who had died from cancer of the kidneys the year before.
Since then he’s raised over £50,000 for various charities through running, cycling, triathlons and hikes which have been staged over consecutive years.
"It was a fantastic feeling to have cycled End to End also taking in the 3 Peaks, achieving over 1,000 miles of the UK terrain and wonderful scenery in generally superb weather” said Bruce. He added “The only downside was that we all suffered from a bit of a pain in the backside to say the least!"

On Sunday 6th April 2008 a team of 9 from JB Wilkins Kennedy ran the Totton 10k for The Rose Road Association. The team was headed up by Ian Talbot who’s daughter Lucy attends Rosewood School, and included his wife Helen and staff from the company’s Romsey and Winchester offices.
The group weren’t fazed by the freak April snowstorm that they woke up to on the day and went on to raise £8,000 for the Change My Life Appeal. I would like to say a huge thank you to the team and well done on completing the event in difficult conditions.

Saturday the 21st June saw the charity's annual fun day at The Rose Road Associations Bradbury Centre.
Star guest was Children presenter Dave-Benson Phillips. Dave has been on the Disney channel, the BBC, nickelodeon and many other children's TV channels, and is a much loved entertainer. Dave dusted off his infamous gunge tank ready to gunge some local celebrities.
Four celebrities including Roger Johnson, BBC South Today sports presenter, Jason Dodd and Francis Benali former Saints legends and Kevan James, Former Hampshire cricketer and BBC cricket commentator went up for a public vote in the Southern Daily Echo prior to the day to see who would be submerged in a wave of slime!
Hundreds of votes where cast on the website with Roger Johnson receiving the most by a landslide!

Luckily the weather held out and hundreds of people turned out for a great afternoon of family fun. As well as the gunging there was entertainment from the Romsey Community Wind Band, a BBQ, face painting, many stalls including Jan Peirson’s and friend’s famous cake stall, and a raffle with some fantastic prizes courtesy of John Lewis and Foresters.
Dave Benson-Phillips started with a couple of popular children’s songs to get the crowds going. Then bang on 2pm the crowds gathered to watch the celebrity gunging. Dave being Dave he thought that at least two celebrities should get a gunging so at the last minute Francis Benali joined Roger Johnson in the gung tank.

The gunging was filmed by the BBC and the Southern Daily Echo - Read the Daily Echo article to watch the actual gunging take place!
The whole day was a great success with over £4000 being raised. All proceeds from the day will go towards the Change My Life Appeal, raising money for our young people who have profound and multiple disabilities.
