Legacies
What Is A Legacy?
A legacy is a gift you choose to leave in your will. There are several ways you can choose to leave this gift:
- Pecuniary Legacy - this is a fixed sum of money, and can also be stocks and shares.
- Specific Legacy - this is a particular object or piece of property.
- Residuary Legacy - this is a gift of whatever may be left after all your bequests, taxes, debts, and expenses have been paid.
- Contingent Legacy - this is a legacy which depends on an event occuring (or not occuring) before it is effective (for instance a gift to charity dependent on someone else not surviving you).
- Leaving a legacy is a straight-forward process, but we would advise you to see a solicitor who can more fully advise you on your particular circumstances.
Should I Make A Will?
Making a will gives you a great peace of mind, making sure your wishes are carried out. Without a will your property may go to people you do not want to have it. We strongly recommend seeing a solicitor who can draw up your will and also advise you about Inheritance Tax and any tax exemptions.
How Do I Make A Will?
Rose Road are pleased to announce that they've teamed up with Bond Pearce to offer a half price Will Writing service. From just £75 plus VAT you can have a basic will written. If you have complicated circumstances then you will receive an estimated cost for the service.
The process couldn’t be simpler either: you are sent out a form to complete which details your intentions. A Solicitor will then call you to go through the details of this and based on this will draw up your will and send it to you to sign.

Support The Rose Road Association by leaving a gift in your will
Leaving money to charity is free from Inheritance Tax. If you would like to leave a gift to the Rose Road Association, please make a note of our Registered Charity Number: 276172 so that this can be included in your will and your Executor will be able to easily trace us.
Not only will it help Rose Road continue to give our young people the special opportunities that many of us take for granted, but it is also free from inheritance tax. Therefore the money that might otherwise go to the Inland Revenue is used for the good of the charity.
By remembering Rose Road, your gift will give children and young adults with disabilities the opportunity to develop to their full potential - to learn new skills, help develop communication skills, make choices to become more independent and share fun times.
Additions To Your Existing Will
If you have already made your will, you should update it especially if you have married, re-married or divorced since making it. You may also have new friends and relatives whom you wish to remember. This would be an ideal opportunity to leave a gift to Rose road which you can very easily add to your existing will. This is called a Codicil and we recommend that this be done under the guidance of a solicitor.
